PROMPT DETAILS Updated 2026-05-17
The Prompt
Build a detailed customer persona for [PRODUCT/SERVICE].
Based on: [ANY DATA YOU HAVE - interviews, surveys, analytics, support tickets]
**Demographics & Context:**
- Name, age range, job title, company size
- Day-in-the-life: What does their workday actually look like?
- Tools they already use (your product fits into this ecosystem)
**Jobs to Be Done:**
- Primary job: What are they hiring your product to do?
- Social job: How do they want to be perceived?
- Emotional job: How do they want to feel?
- What's the "firing" trigger? (what makes them switch FROM something)
**Pain Points (ranked by severity):**
1. [Most painful] — How do they currently solve/suffer this?
2. ...
3. [Least painful but most frequent]
**Buying Behavior:**
- Where do they discover solutions? (channels)
- Who influences their decision? (champion vs buyer vs user)
- What objections arise? (real objections, not polite ones)
- What triggers the purchase decision? (event, not just pain)
**Communication Preferences:**
- Language they use to describe their problem (verbatim quotes)
- Content they consume (podcasts, newsletters, communities)
- What messaging resonates vs what feels "salesy"
**Anti-Persona:**
- Who is NOT this persona? (common confusion)
- Who is a bad fit for the product?
Make this persona specific enough to say "yes" or "no" to feature requests.
How To Use It
Provide whatever customer data you have — even rough observations work. The AI will synthesize it into a decision-useful persona. Update quarterly as your understanding deepens.
Why It Works
Most personas are fictional composites that don’t inform decisions. The “Jobs to Be Done” section and the decision test (“specific enough to say no to features”) ensure this persona actually helps prioritize rather than just making the team feel customer-centric.
Variations
Persona validation:
Here's our current persona: [DESCRIPTION]. Here's recent customer feedback: [DATA]. Does the persona still hold? What needs updating?
Persona-based prioritization:
Here are 5 feature requests. Score each against our primary persona: does it serve their main job-to-be-done? Rank by impact on persona's core pain.
Negative persona:
Define the customer we should NOT pursue. What are their characteristics, why are they a bad fit, and what would happen if we optimized for them?
