LeCun is the great dissenter of the AI boom -- a Turing Award winner who thinks the entire LLM scaling paradigm is a dead end. His JEPA proposals may or may not pan out, but his core critique that autoregressive language models lack world models and causal reasoning is the most intellectually serious challenge to the prevailing consensus. If he is right, the current multi-hundred-billion-dollar bet on scaling LLMs is fundamentally mispriced.
